Nomad Resort & Spa: Hotel Spotlight

BEST FOR:  Design Lovers • Spa Escapes • Romantic Breaks • Boutique Experience

The Nomad is Benidorm’s most intriguing newcomer and, for the right traveller, its most rewarding address.

Tucked between Poniente Beach and the tranquil bay of La Cala de Finestrat — the quieter, more local-feeling cove that sits just south of the main resort — this 22-room boutique hotel occupies a building with a remarkable backstory: a 1950s hostal once belonging to Hungarian and Barcelona football legend László Kubala, now transformed into something that feels quietly exceptional against the backdrop of a resort not typically associated with understated elegance.

Location

As huge Poniente Beach fans we cannot think of a hotel with a better prime location.

Nestled in the Tossal de la Cala headland, an outcrop seamlessly merging the La Cala areas of Benidorm and Finestrat into one, the Nomad is only 5 minutes from Poniente allowing you to virtually roll onto the beach, set yourself up for the day with a famous blue sunbed (6€ for the bed and 6€ for a parasol) and look out onto The Med and Isla de Benidorm.

… 5 minutes later and here we are

Alternatively, a 10 minute stroll in the opposite direction gets you to the smaller La Cala de Finestrat cove, the kind of discovery that veteran Benidorm visitors tend to guard jealously.

Fabulous seafood restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere await.

Vibe

The hotel’s design is consciously evocative of Benidorm’s golden era — the 1950s and 60s when travel brochures dubbed this stretch of coast “the Spanish Riviera” — but filtered through a contemporary lens that owes as much to mid-century California as it does to the Costa Blanca.

A fusion of Malibu Cool and Mediterranean Warmth; once you grab your first glance of the outdoor terrace and then enter the building, you immediately begin to feel inspired by the architectural vision and thematic design running throughout the hotel.

Rooms

The 22 rooms are arranged across four design moods — Nomad, Riviera, Malibu and Scandi — each with its own distinct palette and reference points.

All rooms have a private balcony and there are four dedicated family rooms as well as two suites situated on the 4th floor.

The Nomad rooms feature terracotta floors and arched doorways; the Malibu rooms run to pastel hues and a breezy, Californian ease.

The Riviera rooms capture 1950s Côte d’Azur, with the occasional nod to Matisse and Picasso while also managing to blend the glamour of Nice and Cannes with the heart and warmth of Alicante.

And where we have heat we also have cool in the Danish inspired Hygge rooms. The word means ‘enjoy’ and the lush moss and cream tones, as well as the natural oak and teak furniture, allows you to do just that.

Food & Drink

The hotel restaurant takes local produce seriously and the kitchen’s approach to Valencian and Mediterranean cooking is commendable.

And the dining area again has that cool Cali-inspired feel; relaxed, informal and a little eclectic.

A welcome range of classic tapas, pastas and salads, and varied meat and grilled fish dishes are available.

Whilst breakfast conjures up a choice of Mediterranean, Spanish, French and English options.

And there’s nothing better than simply deciding to enjoy that little slice of holiday heaven – a morning coffee out on the terrace, while you plan your day ahead!

Facilities

As well as a dream place for a holiday in the sun, Nomad excels in providing a healthy interlude during your well deserved break.

Nomad Spa

Serenity, we adore you.

And that’s what we found with the laid back experience while at Nomad.

The small indoor pool, diffused lighting and meditative ambience creates a space where it becomes so easy to disconnect.

And…Relax

Outdoor Pool

The Nomad Hotel is, above all, an intimate experience.

It can be hard to believe you are, essentially, in one of the largest holiday resorts in Europe.

And a day by the pool affirms that real vibe of quiet refinement.

Pool Peace – Perfect

But you are on holiday, so there is always the poolside bar to cool you down – cocktail or mocktail. We’ll let you guess what we went for!

Terrace & Courtyard

The terrace area at the front of the hotel is, as many a grandmother used to say back in the day, the ‘bees knees’.

Morning, noon and night it’s the ideal relaxation spot.

But, if we are halfway through our Spa exeprience then there is nothing better than the perfectly formed courtyard, awash with a multitude of gloriously coloured flowers and decked out with ivory-hued tables and chairs.

Sitting here with a cold beverage works every time.

Then back into the Spa.

Benidorm and Beyond Recommends

We like to pinpoint what to do close to each hotel we review.

Of course, in a huge resort such as Benidorm and the surrounding area, the list is endless; however, our recommendations are centred within the vicinity of the hotel.

And it might just be something you overlook if you are only here for a short while.

Tossal de la Cala

A must climb.

OK, it’s no mountain but it is a steep, winding path to the top.

Hang a right when you exit the hotel and then a 180 turn to get you on to Calle de la Ermita.

A meandering road will firstly bring you to Benidorm’s famous Ermita Virgen del Mar, a small chapel and shrine to Benidorm’s maritime past and its sailors and fisherman of today.

Rest for a while, taking in the mountainous hinterland, the sandy strip of Poniente Beach and the glistening Mediterranean Sea, before making the final steps up to the peak.

Once there you will be glad to know you are walking on ancient ground, the fortications believed to have orginated from the Roman time of Quintus Sertorius during the Sertorian Wars of 77 BC.

And you thought Benidorm was just bars!

You can schedule guided tours via the Visit Benidorm website, alternatively, take a seat and take a deep breath – the vista is stunning.

Wrap Up

As you can see, the Nomad Resort & Spa is not only a sanctuary for the curious traveller, it is located in a heavenly part of the resort where, for a moment, you might just think you’ve arrived on the French Riviera.

So whether it’s an anniversary or celebration. Or the mere fact you deserve it, why not BOOK yourself a trip back to the Golden Era of Benidorm!
