Levante Beach Benidorm: The Ultimate Guide

If Levante Beach were royalty it must surely be the Queen. The Queen of Beaches, shapeshifting from early morning to late evening, from winter to the high peak of a sizzling hot summer, there is nowhere more regal than this mighty stretch of golden sand that has come to symbolise the majesty of Benidorm.

Of course Benidorm has more than one beach, the excellent Poniente and the cute Mal Pas, as well as the two coves of Almadraba and Ximo, however, it is invariably Levante Beach that always springs to mind when conjuring up an idea of Benidorm.

And whether you’re a regular to Benidorm or looking to visit for the first time, understanding and appreciating Levante Beach will only enhance your holiday.

The bars and restaurants running the length of the promenade, and the beachfront hotels where you can virtually fall onto the sand, all add to the heady mix that makes Levante so addictive.

But the real beauty of Levante is how from dawn to dusk and late into the night, the scene changes, the tone alters – a transformation heightened when moving between seasons, from the fresh air of an early Spring to the still warm breeze of a late Autumn, Levante becomes different things to different people.

Ultimately, it becomes your Levante.

Levante Beach: Morning

Cleaned within an inch of its life each day, you will find Levante Beach at its most compelling during the early morning.

As the sun begins to rise, no matter the season, the sand is bathed in a gentle, warming light and the Mediterranean Sea glistens brightly.

You might find the odd early riser exercising or simply soaking it all up.

While there are those with a little more energy getting into the zone, maybe trying to shake off the effects of a late Benidorm night.

It will surprise many people to find Levante Beach so still and peaceful.

They tend always to think of it as a place where people are packed in like sardines. And this might be the case at the height of a Spanish summer but throughout the year the beach beats to a different and varied rhythm.

The English Breakfast might also be prevalent in the minds of those who tend to look down on Benidorm, we are never quite sure why, considering you can grab bacon and eggs in virtually every resort across the world!

But here in Benidorm, in almost all of the establishments along the promenade, you can delight in the classic tostada con tomate, a divine bowl of cereal and yoghurt or many other equally gorgeous breakfast dishes to set you up for the day. And all with a view of the Med.

And there are so many cafés dotted along the front, it would seem a little impolite not to stop off at one or two!

For us, one of the greatest elements of a holiday in Benidorm is finding that perfect place for the first coffee of the morning, somewhere that becomes your special place.

A place with a relaxing vibe, stunning views and your typically wonderful Spanish coffee.

As the sun begins to rise further into the sky, sunseekers will begin to empty their beach bags, unfurl their towels and claim their patch of personal space for the day.

Early starters getting set for the day

Outside of the main summer months of July and August, there is always an opportunity, especially during those silent early hours, to believe you are the only person here, on Levante; you, the sand and the sea.

Levante Beach: Afternoon

As the day moves on and the sun reaches its zenith, Levante awakens, ready to greet holidaymakers from across the world.

You might decide to spend the day on the beach, take a stroll along the promenade, make haste for a table in a seafront restaurant, or all three! Whatever you decide, Levante Beach is ready, eager to please.

Walking in Sunshine

If you’re here in summer the beach will hum with the noise of people and jet skis and speedboats. Families together, kids splashing and the sounds of Spanish, English, German, French, Dutch and Flemish floating through the hot air, reflecting the international feel of the resort.

But there is still always a place you can make your own, under palms, in the shade. Relaxed and Refreshed, the reason we so enjoy coming on holiday.

Peak season offers the full range of waters sports, from pedalos to banana boats and cable ski to parasailing.

And Benidorm Town Hall, who get so much right in their resort, continually aim to ensure Levante Beach works for everyone, providing canopied play areas for children, easy access platforms for people with a disability and petite medical huts ready to help out when required.

And when it comes to lunch and refreshments, well, the world (promenade) is your oyster!

Choosing where is the difficult bit, so many fabulous places all with glorious sea views. For a drink we try to grab a table in Daytona Rock Bar. Always a good atmosphere and live music.

Or we might pop into La Terraza for an elegant, quietly refined environment, part of the Les Dunes Hotel complex.

Lunchtime brings a different challenge, do you go full-on Spanish with a shared paella, or maybe traditional British Fish and Chips? Where Benidorm wins as a resort is that it unashamedly blends native Spanish dining with a mix of international restaurants from across Europe.

A foodie melting pot that works.

We love the informal atmosphere of Cafetería Nabab especially when having their grilled swordfish alongside a severely chilled glass of white wine on a hot summer afternoon.

You can catch Las Jarras, a Belgian favourite of ours, Friday through to Sunday.

There are several Belgian bars and restaurants throughout Benidorm, highlighting that country’s affection for the resort.

But being on Levante promenade and the fact that they’ve been on the go in Benidorm since 1970 just about makes Las Jarras the best choice if you are eager for a bowl of goulash or a plate of stoofvlees en frieten.

If you’re desperate for an English fix for lunch, no better place than Aroma’s Café, located just off the promenade but with views to the Med. We say English, but their Irish burgers are awesome. Closes at 15:30 each day, so don’t leave it too late.

Levante Beach: Sunset

For many Benilovers, it’s the Levante Sunset that strikes a chord, warms the heart and makes Benidorm such a magical destination.

As the day slowly rolls its way towards night and the sun courses a path around the Old Town headland there are not many better places to sit and enjoy this spectacular show in the sky.

And maybe the best place, certainly one that we enjoy, is a table on the terrace of the brilliant Barceló Benidorm Beach hotel.

Levante Beach: Evening

There are many barrios in Benidorm where the buzz is on point – The Strip, Old Town, Rincón, Poniente, La Cala, Foietes – but a night popping from bar to bar and enjoying a paseo on the Levante promenade takes some beating.

And over the past few years more bars have worked their way onto the front, so that when the night draws in you can quite easily stay on Levante Beach until bedtime!

If drinking, listening to live music and views of the neon-lit promenade aren’t enough, keep your eyes peeled for the numerous events that take place along this stretch of Benidorm, from the Parade during Pride Week, Benidorm Half Marathon and the occasional stilt walker.

Levante Beach regular!

For us, Levante Beach has it all.

Regardless of when and what time, it is somewhere that can make your holiday sing. There’s nothing like this in the UK, nor many parts or Europe.

So we say rejoice and say goodnight and thank you to Levante, there’s always tomorrow when you can do it all over again.
