Benidorm Sightseeing Tour

Benidorm is Big.

About 3.5 miles in length and between 1 and 1.5 miles in depth at various points.

And although we are not talking Paris and Barcelona in terms of historic landmarks and cultural icons, the Benidorm City Sightseeing Tour Bus is probably the best way to truly appreciate the scale of the resort.

There are actually two Benidorm City Sightseeing Buses, albeit one of them isn’t a sightseeing tour of Benidorm at all!

Let us explain; Bus #30 is the one to jump on to explore Benidorm and the nearby resort of La Cala de Finestrat.

While Bus #31 whisks you out of Benidorm, taking you on a sightseeing journey to the towns of Alfàs del Pi, Altea and Albir.

They are both highly enjoyable trips allowing you to get to know Benidorm a little better as well as the nearby resorts along the coast.

Route

The starting grid for the Benidorm City Sightseeing Tour is located just outside of The Grand National Bar & Restaurant, 30 or so yards down from the Burger King in the Rincón de Loix area of the resort.

Starting Point: Rincón de Loix

It’s worth bearing in mind that this is simply where the bus begins the tour but you can get on the bus at any of the stops throughout the resort (so that would be your starting point!).

You will depart the Rincón stop and head towards the wide Avenida del Mediterráneo boulevard.

There are several stops along this mighty avenue, one of which is just by the casino.

The tour then charts its way through the central area of Benidorm – Centro – and up past Benidorm Town Hall, home to the resort’s mayor, Toni Pérez.

Look out for L’Aigüera Park to your right, a slice of urban green designed by Ricardo Bofill in the 1990s and home to the Julio Iglesias auditorium which can accommodate up to 4,000 people; famous not only for its name but as the location for Benifest, Spain’s competition to decide on their Eurovision Song Contest entry.

As the bus makes its way back down towards the coast, it is Poniente Beach that comes into view and the cute Dove Park, a strip of land populated by palm trees and lush verdant plants and vegetation.

The double-decker (got to be on the top if you’ve got the kids with you!) travels almost halfway along Poniente’s beautiful beachfront before sliding to the right in order to make tracks towards La Cala de Finestrat.

On this stretch keep your eyes peeled for Europe’s tallest residential building, Intempo. You shouldn’t miss it as it can be seen from almost anywhere in Benidorm!

By now you will have already begun to appreciate the enormity of Benidorm, its buildings, its beaches and the sheer size of this Mediterranean resort. So it might come as an additional surprise as the bus winds its way towards the much smaller cove of La Cala de Finestrat.

La Cala de Finestrat

Many Brits spend their holiday here and rarely travel to the main centre of Benidorm, happy to experience a quieter type of vacation. It has more of a village feel, although high rise apartment buildings have flourished over the past 20 years.

And it is a good place to consider a stop off, enjoying the beach for an hour or more as well as the beachfront cafés and bars.

La Cala de Finestrat is the end point of the loop, so to speak.

The bus works its way back with an early stop at Hotel Gran Bali which was previously the tallest building in Benidorm until Intempo stole its thunder!

The Bali, however, still remains Benidorm’s tallest hotel and as such many people tend to get off at this stop in order to take advantage of the hotel’s viewing platform, Skydeck, which is located on the 43rd floor and offers the most jaw-dropping views of the whole of Benidorm.

From here the tour is en route back to its starting point, taking in a little more of Poniente Beach and passing the lovely seafront apartment block of El Delfin.

The final part of the circuitous route takes you once more into the New Town by driving down Avenida de Europa, onto Avenida del Mediterráneo and then back to the original starting point of Rincón de Loix.

You wait ages for one bus and then …

you can get on the bus at any of the stops throughout the resort

Bus Stops

There are multiple bus stops for Benidorm’s City Sightseeing Tour but the key ones for those staying in the New Town are:

  • Rincón de Loix – close to Burger King and Levante Beach
  • Avenida del Mediterráneo, 55 (Casino)
  • Avenida del Mediterráneo, 41 (Hotel Don Pancho)
  • Avenida del Mediterráneo, 13 (Hotel Belroy)

If you are staying in the Centro or Old Town area head for:

  • Plaza Dr.Fleming, 3AC (Benidorm Town Hall)
  • C/Such Ortega (Elche Park/Dove Park)
  • Avenida Armada Española, 2 (Hotel Villa del Mar)

You can find the full schedule of stops and times along the route on the website of bus company Avanza.

Tickets

It seems that one of the main reasons visitors to Benidorm might decide not to do the City Sightseeing Tour is down to the simple fact that they have no idea what to do, what to buy, where to buy it and what it gets you!

So, let’s break it down.

Firstly, purchase your ticket from the bus driver. So whatever bus stop you start from, just ask the person behind the wheel.

Ticket Cost

  • 24 Hour Card 11,60€
  • 72 Hour Card 21,20€
  • 7-Day Card 40,40€

The Tourist Card allows you to travel on all local buses any time during the specific time frame relating to your card purchase i.e 24 hours, 72 hours or 7 days.

This includes:

  • Bus #30 – Benidorm City Sightseeing Tour
  • Bus #31 – Sightseeing Tour Benidorm – Alfàs del Pi – Albir – Altea
  • Bus #16 Benidorm to Guadalest
  • Bus #18 – Benidorm to Fuentes del Algar

Essentially, if you purchase the 24 hour card for Bus #30 you can use it throughout the day, so you might travel from the New Town to La Cala de Finestrat and spend a few hours on the beach followed by lunch. Hop on the next bus and get off at the Hotel Gran Bali to check out their viewing platform.

And some people will purchase the 72 hour card as they want to take advantage of the other bus trips that are included in the price – the waterfalls at Algar, the mountain top village of Guadalest and the gorgeous town of Altea – while also using it to move around the resort on the other local bus routes.

As we mentioned earlier, the sightseeing tour is not taking you around Valencia or Madrid. It is just an hour+ journey helping you to discover more of Benidorm, showcasing the resort and making the whole place that more familiar to you.

The bonus is you can get on and off to experience different parts of the resort that otherwise might remain completely hidden to you!

¡Disfruta tu viaje!
