Essential Tips

Some people often choose not make use of public transport when in Benidorm as they imagine it to be complex and more so due to language issues, however, using the local bus service in Benidorm is not only straightforward it is one of the most cost-effective ways to discover Benidorm and Beyond!

How to Flag Down a Benidorm Bus

  • Bus Stops: Look for clearly marked bus stops with route numbers and timetables
  • Flagging: Simply raise your hand as the bus approaches – drivers are accustomed to tourists
  • Multiple Routes: Many stops serve multiple routes, so check the route number displayed on the front of the bus
  • Peak Times: During summer and peak hours, arrive a few minutes early as buses can get full

Accessibility & Wheelchair Access

Modern Avanza buses are generally wheelchair accessible, featuring:

  • Low-floor entry systems
  • Designated wheelchair spaces
  • Priority seating for disabled passengers
  • Audio announcements (primarily in Spanish and Valencian)

Live Bus Times

You will find that Benidorm bus stops have QR code stickers making things a little easier to track the next bus!

Simply scan the QR code with your phone to view real-time arrival information

There are also some stops, generally the major ones, with digital smart screens showing live arrivals – you’ve simply got to keep up with the times!

Payment Methods

  • Cash: Exact change preferred, though drivers can provide change
  • Contactless: Most buses accept contactless card payments
  • Top Up & Tourist Cards: Purchase directly from the bus driver

Langauage & Communication

  • Basic Spanish Phrases:
    • “¿Para en…?” (Does it stop at…?)
    • “¿Cuánto cuesta?” (How much does it cost?)
    • “¿Próxima parada, por favor?” (Next stop, please?)
  • Route Names: Learn key destination names in Spanish
  • Drivers: Generally helpful with tourists, though English may be limited

The Benidorm bus network is comprehensive, affordable, and tourist-friendly. Don’t be afraid to ask locals or drivers for help – Spanish hospitality extends to helping confused tourists find their way!

Keep route maps handy (available free at tourist information centres), and remember that the journey is often as scenic as the destination, especially on coastal routes like the one to Altea.

Whether you’re planning a day at the theme parks, a cultural excursion to mountain villages, or simply want to avoid the hassle of parking in busy Benidorm, the bus network offers an excellent way to explore this beautiful part of the Costa Blanca.

¡Buen viaje!
