Calle de Santo Domingo, Calle José Martínez Oriola, and Plaza de la Constitución are at the centre of The Old Town tapas zone. In some ways, the heart of the Basque country in Benidorm. It was during the 1960s that many Spaniards from the north made their way to the tourism capital of Costa Blanca and set up the tapas bars so typical in their native region, and now made famous in Benidorm. Aupa is one of our favourites, their raciones and pintxos are mouthwateringly good and there is no better place to grab one of their street tables and put the order in for a seafood paella. The buzz at lunchtime is electric; people passing by, the incessant chatter and the warm hospitality. Keep your eye out for Real Sociedad football shirts, San Sebastián’s very own team. We think the owner might be a fan!
