10 Favourite British Bars: Benidorm Old Town

It often bemuses us here at Benidorm and Beyond why there is such consternation from some quarters regarding the number of British bars in Benidorm.

There are Irish pubs all over the world, Italian restaurants in every town in every country and a Spanish tapas bar in most cities in the UK!

We hold a different perspective, viewing the British bars in Benidorm Old Town as an integral part of the Benidorm story, a rich tapestry woven over the years, merging seamlessly with Spanish culture to create a synergy that just works.

Additionally, we take our hats off to those Brits who move overseas, open a business, and against all the odds, thrive.

While adding tremendously to the buzz and bonhomie of Benidorm Old Town.

10. Little Britannia

Little Britannia

You will find Little Britannia just off Paseo de la Carretera – The Walking Street – which is probably the most famous of the Old Town’s calles.

Owned and managed by West Yorkshire lass, Tracey, it’s a warm and friendly welcome that greets you in this traditional British pub.

Of course, a fabulous Sunday Roast is available as well as our favourite, Steak Pie & Mash!

The Little Britannia sign has become quite famous across Social Media, the mainstream media using it to take a dig at the British side of Benidorm, while all of us Benilovers view the sign as a symbol of unity, bringing two unique cultures closer together.

9. Welcome

Welcome Bar, Benidorm Old Town.

Welcome Bar

You could say the Welcome Bar does what it says on the tin.

Tucked away down Calle San Miguel (great name for a street!), this is the Old Town’s version of a sports bar – 3 screens on tap to watch the daily horse racing, footy and rugby.

Carling on tap, too. Plus a pool table and dartboard.

It doesn’t take much to pack the place out, great atmosphere.

Make sure you’re carrying cash – cards are the only thing not welcome!

8. The Little White Bull

The Little White Bull

You can virtually roll off of Levante Beach into The Little White Bull.

A swell location and a swell interior, cooling during the hot summer months.

Even cooler with a pint of Thatchers Gold.

A lot of Benilovers have become regulars at this corner pub and we can see why – friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere.

And you can just about squeeze in a view of the Med!

7. Sherry’s

Plaza de la Señoría

Sherry's Bar, Benidorm

Sherry’s Bar

For anyone old enough to remember Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee back in 1977 (our hand is up); well, in the same year Benidorm’s Sherry’s Bar opened its doors for the first time.

And this is what we love about the British bars in the Old Town – for nearly 50 years this place has welcomed hundreds of thousands of Brits.

You can imagine Spanish food being quite low down on the ‘must have’ list for 1970s holidaymakers, so the Sunday Lunch and all things British would have provided a comforting hug.

OK, we still enjoy our British pub food today but many of us now adore a wide range of Iberian classics.

Hats off to Sherry’s, one of the early pioneers of the Brits in Benidorm tale.

Would love to know how they got their hands on probably the best location of any British bar in Benidorm!

6. The Thistle

The Thistle Bar, Benidorm Old Town.

The Thistle Bar

On the same street as Paneil’s and Amigo’s restaurants, and opposite one of the Old Town’s famous shops, El Jardin by Di Marco, The Thistle Bar is run by Clarkie and Karen.

With Bingo every Sunday and Quiz Night on a Monday, you’ll feel as though you’ve never left home.

For food you can pop a few doors further up the street where the guys now have their Thistle Kitchen where Karen is left to do all the hard work preparing some great grub.

A walk back down to the bar means you’ve put in a little exercise for the day (30 yards!), ready for the live entertainment that kicks off from 9PM.

5. Little Coopers

Little Coopers, Benidorm Old Town.

Little Coopers

The ‘Famous’ Little Coopers is what an Old Town British bar is all about.

Good craic, good beer and some good Northern Soul tunes floating in the air, all overseen by the hospitable Mark and Ann.

Open from 1PM you can catch all of your sports, sit back, relax, get into holiday mode and appreciate why Benidorm is so much better for the famous Little Coopers.

4. Vincents Old Town

Vincents Old Town Bar, Benidorm.

Vincents Old Town

You simply have to visit Vincents Old Town due to the fact that in 1965 it became the first British bar in Benidorm.

And, of course, it’s also a great pub!

We are thinking they popped Old Town into the name of the bar as nobody had a clue where anything was back then (although that still seems to apply today!).

An awesome location opposite the fantastic Hotel Voramar, just across the road from the brand new Hotel Villa España, and about 100 yards up from Dove Park and Poniente Beach.

You’ll find the sport and a classic British menu throughout the day with Karaoke kicking off from 9PM every night, and once you’ve been you can lay claim to entering Benidorm’s first Brit pub.

3. Bar 69

Plaza de la Constitución

Bar 69, Benidorm Old Town.

Bar 69

Next to Hotel Queens and Oliver’s Bar, Bar 69 is perched high above the Old Town’s famous Plaza de la Constitución.

And opposite the entrance to Tapas Alley.

We’re in the heart of the Old Town and in one of the best places to enjoy it all.

An awesome array of cocktails on offer, the best sangria in the resort and no better location to people watch the day away.

2. Casper’s

Casper's Bar. Benidorm Old town.

Casper’s Bar

A Loyalty Card, a Shelf dedicated to Gin, Happy 2 Hours every day between 5PM and 7PM and next door to Colliers Bar if you fancy a mini bar crawl.

Casper’s Bar works its magic every time, serving food up until 9PM; it’s just a top, typically British eatery, where you feel immediately at home, although you’re well over a thousand miles away from home!

What we like, though, are the super salads and stellar Ploughman’s Lunch, and a cheeky coffee and carrot cake to finish – it’s not always all about the beer!

1. Pig ‘n’ Whistle

c/del Pal

Pig n Whistle Pub, Old town, Benidorm

Pig ‘n’ Whistle Pub

There aren’t many live music venues in Benidorm Old Town but if there was, the Pig ‘n’ Whistle Pub would still be #1.

Another venue that’s been rocking the neighbourhood for over 50 years, and still puts on one of the best nights in town.

A kicking atmosphere, quality environment and super staff who keep on serving until the early hours.

Incredibly, we still find people who’ve not only not been to the Pig but have also never heard of it – shame on you!

If you do one thing on your next visit to the Dorm, head to Calle del Pal for an evening of proper entertainment.
